Amazing Sprinter Camper Van For Sale

UPDATE: We’ve sold our van, but I’ve left this up for historical interest.

One thoroughly amazing dream machine that has taken us on many journeys…

We’re selling our 2008 Dodge Sprinter 2500 144″ wheelbase high-roof custom camper van. We are the original and only owners of this van. We purchased it new in May of 2009, and had it professionally converted into an RV by VanWorks in Fort Collins, Colorado. This van is in mint condition, we’ve put less than 20,000 miles on it, it’s had a full 10,000-mile service and just received a brand-new windshield. We get admiring compliments on it everywhere we go, and the only reason we’re selling it is that I need to build a new Sprinter conversion to create some more products for my Sprinter RV Web site. This van is badged as a Dodge, but is entirely a Mercedes product, manufactured at Mercedes in Stuttgart and re-assembled in South Carolina for US import.

A stock cargo van like this has a MSRP of US$45,000, and you will typically pay another $US20-30K for the conversion, so this is an excellent price for this quality of camper van. This van has a powerful 3-liter V6 turbocharged diesel engine that doesn’t lose any power at altitude, and this conversion is very light (about 6500 lbs), so we get excellent fuel mileage of around 20 mpg. This van has front A/C, dark-tinted, screened camper windows all around, a 200-watt solar system on the roof, a super-efficient 12-volt refrigerator, a diesel 2-burner cooktop/heater, sink with hand pump and removable water storage underneath, sleeps 4, interior LED lights, interior ceiling FantasticFan powered roof vent, 2-battery deep-cycle house battery system, overhead cabinets and rear under-seat storage, large rear dining table, aftermarket AM/FM/CD/MP3/iPod/Bluetooth-compatible 5-speaker stereo system, rugged vinyl flooring. The van easily fits 4 mountain bikes into the rear with the table stowed behind the front bench seat.

Custom Sprinter Campervan Features

  • This van has been customized so that it comfortably sleeps 2 adults and 2 kids, with front and rear beds:
    •    The second-row 3-place bench seat (with floor-anchored seatbelts) folds down flat into a bed, with an extension that fits into the side doorwell.
    •    The rear dinette sofas convert into a 54 x 70″ (measure??) rear queen bed, using the rear tabletop as the central bed support
  •   The bench seat and bed sections are covered in charcoal vinyl and gray cloth matching the front seats.
  • The refrigerator is a Novakool 12VDC R3800 2.4-cu-ft. super-efficient refrigerator, insulated with an extra 1″ of rigid insulation around it in the cabinetry
  • The cooktop/heater is a diesel-powered Wallace 88DU/270 2-burner model, functions as cooktop with the lid up, as a heater with the blower lid down, tapped int the main fuel tank, so no propane system needed, and no open flame so there’s no condensation or worries about running out of propane.
  • The house battery system is 2 Concorde LifeLine GPL-4CT 6V absorbed glass mat (AGM) deep-cycle batteries wired in series for a 220Ah 12V system and installed in an under-seat battery box vented to the outside (although AGM batteries do not off-gas, so this is just a precaution), this will give about 4-5 days autonomy from any hookups, and is recharged by the rooftop solar system and by the van’s alternator while the engine is running. AGM batteries are more expensive than standard lead-acid batteries, but require no maintenance, and do not freeze since there is almost no liquid in them.
  • The sink uses a hand pump, and is connected to two 7-gallon removable storage containers in a cabinet, and these portable containers can easily be removed and refilled.
  • The two driver’s-side mid- and rear windows are both tinted, screened tilt-out T-windows from CR Laurence, as is the passenger-side sliding-door window
  • All side windows and rear windows are curtained with sliding gray curtains, and there’s a snap-on curtain for the sliding-door window, and a very large snap-on curtain that closes off the entire front cabin from the rear section.
  • There are 10 interior LED lights, controlled from a main panel in the side doorwell
  • The solar system is 2 x 100W 44-cell solar panels, a solar charge controller, and system monitor from AM Solar, mounted on the roof with fixed mounts. In good sunshine, this system typically puts out 5-11 amps of power. Battery state-of-charge by voltage level, current battery charging cycle stage, current power output, and engine battery state-of-charge are displayed on the solar system monitor display.
